Life Learning Centre [LLC] recently held a Floral Art Workshop with Chelsea Flow Show Medalist, Nicky Gurret.
A spokesperson said, “Ms. Gurret engaged members with a morning workshop that explored the creative and intricate nuances of Floral Art. Ms. Gurret an artist and architect is a repeat Chelsea Flower medalist having won 6 medals at the Chelsea Flower show and exhibited in five World Flower Shows and other shows.”
Dr Ferguson, director of LLC, said, “Ms. Gurret skilfully took the participants through a full range of design templates and palettes using simple and readily available local materials that included bullrush, coleus, Mexican daisies, nasturtiums, wild gladioli, pittosporum and dried plant material.
“The workshop demonstrated in some ways playful dimensions of working and sculpting flowers and fauna. In addition to observing participants were able to make their own arrangements.”
“The Bermuda College Lifelong Learning Centre [LLC] offers programs, courses, outings, and educational travel experiences for mature learners or people who are over fifty-five. The LLC opened its doors over twenty-five years ago originally under the name of the Seniors’ Learning Centre.
“Ms Gurret’s workshop is only one of the many spring to summer workshops and events on offer. This year the LLC opened the semester with an afternoon tea at the Bermuda National Trust property Verdmont.
“The most recent class on floral art by Nicky Gurret was a great success and from now to the end of the semester members will enjoy mini-golf at dockyard followed by lunch at Pompano Beach Club. If you are interested in fine art one can explore the roots of early modernism and late 19th century to early 20th century art with Dr. Judith Hayward, retired Bermuda College lecturer.
“Late in May Ronnie Chameau, a Bermuda national treasure will be demonstrating how to make Bermuda Banana Leaf dolls. For folks with green thumbs and aspiring gardeners or those who are just interested in the world of plants the LLC will be visiting Tulo Valley plant nursery.
“The semester will close with a visit to Non-such Island followed by a photography workshop that will take you beyond point and click photography. The LLC is a thriving centre that offers a range of exciting and engaging activities.
